GMA Awards Sheridan for Collaboration

COLORADO SPRINGS – Joseph Sheridan, president and chief operating officer of Wakefern Food Corp., has received the second annual Grocery Manufacturers Association Industry Collaboration Leadership Award here.

The presentation was made at a dinner during the GMA Executive Conference.

In his acceptance speech, Sheridan, who is the current chairman of National Grocers Association, saluted the collaboration efforts of the industry and his company.

Sheridan (left) accepts the award from Rodkin.“I’m honored because this award is about collaboration, and I accept it on behalf of the culture of Wakefern, which is about collaboration” among families working together in the cooperative, he said, he said.

“FMI, NGA and GMA are also member-driven organizations, and they succeed based upon collaboration.”

Sheridan, who has worked at Wakefern since 1976, is a member of FMI’s board of directors and Executive Committee, and is a board member of GS1.

GMA preceded the award presentation by marking the 20th anniversary of the industry’s Efficient Consumer Response initiative, a collaborative effort that was born at an educational session at the 1992 GMA Executive Conference. The current chairpersons of GMA and FMI, Gary Rodkin, CEO, ConAgra Foods, and Fred Morganthall, president, Harris Teeter, joined each other on the stage to honor the anniversary.
