Giant Buys Two Fresh & Green's Stores

LANDOVER, Md. — Giant Food here said it has agreed to acquire two Fresh & Green's stores in the Baltimore area, and plans to convert them to the Giant banner.

The stores — located on West 41st Street in Baltimore and on Harford Road in Parkville, Md. — were part of a group of eight former SuperFresh stores that Fresh & Green's parent company, Toronto-based Natural Market Restaurant Group, acquired last year from A&P.

Giant said the West 41st Street location would replace an existing Giant in the Rotunda shopping center on West 40th Street. Both Fresh & Green's locations will close temporarily for the conversion process.

"Giant Food is excited about the opportunity to remodel and open two convenient locations for Baltimore-area customers," said Anthony Hucker, president, Giant Food of Landover, which is a division of Ahold USA. "We look forward to making significant improvements to the stores and to offering our unique combination of quality, value and service, which customers have come to expect from Giant for more than seven decades."

Natural Market had previously told SN it was seeking to provide a broader mix of natural and organic product at the acquired stores.

The company could not be reached for comment on the sale of the two locations to Giant.
