NEW YORK -- The Annual International Fancy Food & Confection show here couldn't have been sweeter.

Candy comprised much of the assortment in the "What's New?" display, with novelties, diet and seasonal items making the strongest showing.

Herman Goelitz Co., Fairfield, Calif., for instance, maker of Jelly Belly jelly beans, introduced "Candy Lights." The gummy candy is shaped like Christmas light bulbs.

Goelitz also introduced two additional Jelly Belly flavors -- "Gramma's Pumpkin Pie" and "Hanukkah Mix."

The Fancy Food show, which ran from June 29 to July 2, was sponsored by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, also based here.

Along with seasonal items, diet candy was well-represented at the show. Perugina Brands of America, Saddle Brook, N.J., introduced its new line of sugar-free hard candies. The line will hit store shelves nationwide by September.

Many interesting novelty items were on display as well, such as "Snap," Colombian espresso coffee beans covered in a hard chocolate coating. Snap is manufactured by Lisa's Gourmet Snacks, Austin, Texas.
