Sales of refrigerated juices and drinks dropped 2.29%, to $3.8 billion, in the supermarket channel for the 52 weeks that ended June 13. That compares to a 1.56% drop, to $3.89 billion, for the calendar year that ended Dec. 28, 2003, and a 5.7% decline to just over $3.95 billion for the 12 months that ended Dec. 29, 2002.

Orange, the undisputed king of juices, saw sales drop 3.72%, to $2.6 billion, for the 52 weeks ending June 13. Other losers included refrigerated blended fruit juices, down 14.34%, to $224.5 million; grapefruit juice, down 10.2%, to $85.4 million; fruit nectar, down 20.5%, to $17.5 million; pineapple juice, down 3.85%, to $10.7 million; and cider, down 3.46%, to $44 million.

Not all refrigerated juices experienced a drought, however. Sales of vegetable juices/cocktails went up 36.7%, to $17.5 million, over the same time period. Cranberry cocktails and drinks increased 103.63%, to just over $5 million, and grape juice jumped 96.47% to $884,039.

Drug stores saw sales growth of 2.77%, to $42.1 million, over the latest 52 weeks.
