Jackie Brewer was named vice president and controller; he previously served as controller. David Hardin, director of properties, was appointed vice president of properties. Mary Barber, formerly director of return checks, was named vice president of return checks/forgeries.

They report to J.L. Williams, president of Minyard, which operates 83 stores and has 7,600 employees.

"With the growth in the number of stores and the number of employees, we wanted to make sure we had our management team in place and ready to handle any expansion of the company," Williams explained. "These transitions will enable our company to provide better supervisory coverage for our stores."

Green Resigns From Ralphs

COMPTON, Calif. -- Ralphs Grocery Co. here said David Green has resigned as president of its Ralphs Supermarkets division less than three months after accepting the position.

Ralphs said it is not seeking a successor. Al Marasca, corporate president and chief operating officer, will reassume the marketing and store operations duties Green had been assigned.

Asked why Green had resigned after a short tenure, Ron Burkle, chairman of Yucaipa Cos., Los Angeles, which controls Ralphs, said Green was married the day before taking the job at Ralphs conditionally and that he and his wife decided they preferred living in Arizona. Green had been president of the Yucaipa-owned Smitty's Supermarkets, Phoenix, when it merged with Smith's Food & Drug Centers, Salt Lake City, "and there was no position for him there, so we created a position at Ralphs," Burkle said.

Glen's Markets Adds To Wittman's Duties

GAYLORD, Mich. -- Brian Wittman has been named vice president of marketing and sales at Glen's Markets here.

Formerly director of marketing, Wittman now oversees procurement and category management in addition to the marketing department. He reports to Denny Freeman, executive vice president.

Wittman joined Glen's last year as marketing director. Before that, he held various titles at Harris Teeter, Charlotte, N.C., where he worked for 23 years.

VP Resigns at Grand Union

WAYNE, N.J. -- Grand Union Co. here disclosed last week that Kenneth R. Baum, executive vice president and chief financial officer, has resigned.

The 227-store chain said Baum was leaving the company to pursue other career opportunities. "We are extremely disappointed that Ken is leaving us. His talents have contributed greatly to our company over the last several years," Joseph J. McCaig, president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Baum will stay in his position until the end of this year while his replacement is being selected, according to McCaig. No potential successors were named.
