McEvoy Named to USDA Committee
Evoy, chief executive officer of Seald-Sweet Growers, Vero Beach, Fla., and chairman of the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association here, has been appointed to the 38-member U.S. Department of Agriculture Advisory Committee on Agricultural Biotechnology.
The purpose of the recently established Committee is to advise the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture on issues relating to the expansion and importance of agriculture biotechnology. Committee members serve two-year terms.
Among the topics to be examined by the Committee are the effects of industry concentration and consolidation on farms; intellectual property rights and grower automony; the effects of biotechnology on small farms; and the USDA's role in assuring that farmers have an array of choices for future agricultural technology and practices.
In McEvoy's current position as chairman of the UFFVA, he leads the activities of United's membership which represents farmers, shippers, wholesalers, distributors, and retailers of commercial fresh fruits and vegetables.
Buyproduce.com Appoints Flood CEO
IRVINE, Calif. -- Buyproduce.com, here, has named Greg Flood president and CEO, responsible for the day-to-day operations and the long-term development of the e-commerce company. He is also charged with assembling a senior management team that includes marketing, retail sales, customer development and food-service sales. He replaces founder Brent Keefer, who will focus on assessing key strategic alliances and exploring valuable business ventures for the company.
Prior to this, Flood was former senior vice president of marketing and sales at Grimmway Farms, Bakersfield, Calif., one of the world's largest producer of carrots. Before that, he was the chief operating officer for Fresh Choice Produce Inc., Salinas, Calif. Earlier, Flood was the national manager of produce operations for Kraft General Foods, Deerfield, Ill., where he was responsible for overseeing 33 produce managers in the respective food-service divisions throughout the country.
