Penn Traffic Names Division President

Reporting to John Dixon, Penn Traffic's chairman and chief executive officer, he succeeds Ray Heath, who retired last month and will continue with the company as a consultant. Heath has been with the Riverside Division and Penn Traffic for 29 years and and has played a vital role in the growth of Riverside Markets, the company reported.

Ammons had been executive vice president at Riverside since 1990, coming to the division from P&C Foods' New England Division, where he was vice president and general manager. Before that, the 30-year supermarket industry veteran worked for U-Save and Quality Markets.

Richfood Selects President

RICHMOND, Va. -- As part of an operational reorganization, Richfood Holdings here has named Alec Covington president and chief operating officer of Richfood, its Mechanicsville, Va.-based subsidiary.

He formerly served as Richfood's executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Covington, who reports to John E. Stokely, president of Richfood Holdings, has been with Richfood since last October. Before that, he was president of Houchens Industries, Bowling Green, Ky. From 1979 to 1993, he was division president of the Quincy, Fla., and Greenville, Ky., divisions of Wetterau Inc. and also had served as director of retail operations and services for the Greenville division.

Cole Joins Bruno's Marketing Staff

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Robert Cole has joined Bruno's here as director of relationship marketing.

Under the position, Cole is responsible for better defining customer needs and developing innovative marketing plans to meet those needs. He reports to Lisa Kranc, senior vice president of marketing. Cole's experience includes marketing and consumer research at Procter & Gamble, Cincinnati, and most recently at Maybelline, Memphis, Tenn.

Baker Named to Fleming Board

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Jack W. Baker was elected as a new director to the board of Fleming Cos. here.

Baker, Fleming's largest single stockholder, is a former vice president of the Food Marketing Institute, Washington, and the president and chief executive officer of Baker's Supermarkets, Omaha, Neb. Serving a three-year term, he succeeds former CEO Dean Werries, who is retiring from the board after 17 years.

Food Lion Elects Board Member

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Jean-Claude Coppieters 't Wallant has been elected as a new board member at Food Lion here.

Coppieters is the chief financial officer of Delhaize Le Lion, Brussels, Belgium, Food Lion's parent company. He replaces E. Charles de Cooman d'Herlinckhove, who retired from Food Lion's board after 11 years.
