Fresh Brands Names Plumley as CFO

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Retailer/wholesaler Fresh Brands here last week said it named S. Patric Plumley senior vice president, chief financial officer, treasurer and secretary. Elwood Winn, president and chief executive officer, Fresh Brands, had been acting CFO since the departure of Armand Go in August. Plumley most recently served as senior vice president, CFO, secretary and director at Eagle Food, Milan, Ill., and prior to that he held executive posts at American Stores, Salt Lake City, and Lucky Stores, Dublin, Calif. He began his career at Kash n' Karry in 1973. Eagle Food said Randall McMurray, vice president and controller, was named acting CFO, and Herbert Fickel, vice president and treasurer, has assumed additional responsibilities in audit and compliance.

Food 4 Less Appoints Three To New Positions

LOS ANGELES -- Food 4 Less here has named Bryan Kaltenbach vice president of store operations, overseeing the chain's 127 stores in California and Nevada. He succeeds Tim Mulhall, who was named group vice president, perishables. Kaltenbach previously was a district manager. Also, Daryl Zgodzay was named vice president, sales and marketing, Northern California and Las Vegas. Food 4 Less, which has 127 stores in California and Nevada, is a division of Kroger Co., Cincinnati.

GroceryWorks Names Rhodes New President

PLEASANTON, Calif. -- GroceryWorks has named Mitchell Rhodes president of the online grocery concern, which is 50% owned by Safeway here and 35% owned by Tesco.com in London. He succeeds Gary Rocheleau, who has rejoined Safeway. Rhodes previously was general manager and vice president, marketing, for San Francisco-based clothing retailer Gap's online division. Before joining Gap, he had been business director of Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft Foods' cheese division, and he also had been director of strategy for the company, where he worked from 1993 to 1997. He also previously held posts with McKinsey & Co. and Procter & Gamble Co.
