Kash n' Karry Names Chairman

Johnson joined the chain in late January as president and chief executive officer, with the understanding that he would also be named chairman when Anthony Petrillo resigned as acting chairman. Petrillo, who had been acting chairman since August, gave up the title earlier this month.

Kash n' Karry operates 99 supermarkets and 33 liquor stores on the west coast of Florida.

Winn-Dixie Appoints 2 Division Executives

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Winn-Dixie Stores here has named two executives to head divisions.

Dan Lafever, formerly president of Winn-Dixie's Orlando division, was named president of the chain's Midwest division, with headquarters in Louisville, Ky.

He succeeds Ron George, who was appointed retail operations superintendent for the Orlando division.

Lafever reports to Howard Hess, senior vice president and regional director for the Midwest, Atlanta, New Orleans and Fort Worth divisions.

Ron Buday, formerly retail operations superintendent, has been named division manager for Winn-Dixie Orlando. He fills the post formerly held by Lafever. Buday reports to Ed Walters, regional director and senior vice president for Miami, Orlando and the Bahamas.

Lafever oversees the operations of 85 stores in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee. Buday oversees the operation of 107 units located throughout central Florida. Winn-Dixie operates more than 1,150 stores in 13 states and the Bahamas.

Safeway's Schinner to Retire

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Safeway here said that Wilber (Burr) L. Schinner, senior vice president and corporate marketing director, will retire next month.

He will be succeeded by Gary D. Smith, currently vice president of corporate grocery and private-label merchandising.

Schinner, a 37-year veteran of Safeway, has headed the company's corporate marketing group since 1988.

Smith, a 34-year veteran of the company, has been Safeway's principal liaison with grocery manufacturers since 1988 and, more recently, has overseen the company's private-label marketing activities.

He will report to Stephen A. Burd, president and chief executive officer.

IGA Marketer Named by Fleming

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Fleming Cos. here has named John Keyser director of IGA marketing for the Lafayette, La., Houston and San Antonio divisions, a new position.

He is responsible for increasing IGA's sales, profits and market share through new store development, remodeling and new business prospecting within the Lafayette, San Antonio and Houston divisions.

Keyser, a 10-year veteran of Fleming, has been president of the Lafayette division since 1993. Keyser reports to Jim Costello, group president of IGA marketing.

Rollison Joins Harvest as VP

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Harvest Foods here has named Ray Rollison vice president, sales and merchandising.

Rollison, who will join the company next week, will oversee advertising, sales, marketing, buying and merchandising in the newly formed position.

Those duties are currently being held by Harry Janson, chairman, president and chief operating officer.

Rollison was formerly with Wakefern Food Corp., Elizabeth, N.J., as corporate manager of sales and marketing. He will report to Janson.
