JURGENS NAMED CEO AT HY-VEE, PEARSON REMAINS CHAIR

Ric Jurgens chief executive officer and chief operating officer, effective Jan 1, 2004. Jurgens began as a part-time employee in 1969, and has risen through the ranks as a store manager, division manager and head of the company's perishables subsidiary. Jurgens will become the 73-year-old company's third CEO. His predecessor as CEO, Ron Pearson, who has held that title since 1989, will remain chairman of both the board and its executive committee. "I just need to focus on the big-picture items, and Ric will be running the company on a day-to-day basis," Pearson told SN. Jurgens said he plans to "stay the course" as the new CEO.

FRESH BRANDS TAPS DAHLY AS CFO, STINEBAUGH AS EVP

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. -- Fresh Brands here said last week it has named John Dahly executive vice president, chief financial officer, treasurer and secretary, and named Louis Stinebaugh executive vice president, operations. Dahly had been the company's CFO from 1986 through 2001. Since then, he has worked as a consultant to Fresh Brands on franchise-related projects. Dahly succeeds Elwood Winn, Fresh Brands' former chief executive officer, who had also served as acting CFO from September until he left the company last month. Stinebaugh, who was previously president of the Milwaukee-based Sentry division of Fleming, Dallas, will be responsible for Fresh Brands' corporate store operations and franchisee relationships, and will also oversee warehouse management, transportation, real estate and store development.
