Martindale was senior vice president of sales and procurement for Smith's Food & Drug Centers, Salt Lake City, which Fred Meyer acquired last fall.

Mary F. Sammons, president of Fred Meyer Stores. Sammons was executive vice president of the apparel, home and home electronics group of Fred Meyer Stores.

Abel Porter, president of Smith's, with responsibilities for the operations and merchandising of 155 stores operating under the banners of Smith's Food & Drug Centers, Smitty's Supermarkets and PriceRite Grocery Warehouses. Porter was senior vice president and regional manager of Smith's Intermountain region. In another change, the company said it has named Mary Burczyk senior vice president of corporate relations, succeeding Cheryl Perrin, who has retired after 22 years with the company.

Burzcyk, who will join Fred Meyer next week, has been senior vice president in charge of West Coast services for CDA Capital Advisors, San Francisco, an investor relations consulting firm. Burczyk will report to Kenneth Thrasher, executive vice president and chief administrative officer.
