LANDOVER, Md. -- Giant Food here is making good on last year's promise to move north.
The company, which earlier said it identified between 10 and 12 locations in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania, has begun to reveal specifics:
· Stores in two New Jersey townships -- Mount Laurel and Washington -- are scheduled to open in 1996, according to Barry Sher, vice president of public affairs for Giant. A store in Cherry Hill, N.J., will open this fall.
· Giant will open its second Delaware store this fall in the Brandywine area. The first opened in April 1994 in Bear, Del.
· While Giant still plans Pennsylvania sites, no information was available. Giant does not currently operate any stores in that state.
"We expect to announce several other locations in New Jersey and in Pennsylvania soon," said Barry Sher, vice president of public affairs.
All stores in the tristate area will carry the Super G banner because Giant Food Stores, Carlisle, Pa., owns the rights to the Giant name within the state.
The company also plans to build four new stores in the Washington metro area and one new store in the Baltimore area within the current calendar year. The sites are Fairfax, Manassas and Woodbridge, Va., and Bowie and Owings Mills, Md.
