JACKSON, Miss. -- Jitney-Jungle Stores of America here has named Ronald E. Johnson president and chief operating officer and R. Barry Cannada executive vice president and general counsel.
as chairman, president and CEO. Prior to that post, he was chairman, president and CEO of Kash n' Karry Food Stores, Tampa, Fla. Cannada comes to Jitney-Jungle from the law firm of Butler, Snow, O'Mara, Stevens & Cannada here, where he had been a partner since 1981.
Jitney-Jungle is in the process of completing its acquisition of the 117-store Mobile, Ala.-based Delchamps chain. Johnson will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the combined companies, which will have more than 220 stores in six states. Cannada will be responsible for all of the company's legal and real estate affairs, and will have a central role in strategic policy and planning decisions.
Farm Fresh is currently being acquired by Richfood Holdings, Richmond, Va., in a $220 million cash deal.
