A 16-ounce glass bottle with an insulating label and pour-spout closure has been selected by Knott's Berry Farm Foods for its Microwave Heat-and-Pour Syrup in Original Flavor and Light. "We chose glass because of its performance in the microwave. It works really well," said Marji Morrow, group marketing manager. All the components were chosen for optimum microwave convenience. The bottle height, for example, was selected to fit most microwave ovens. The expanded polystyrene foam Plasti-Shield II label from Sweetheart Packaging, Owings Mills, Md., serves as an insulator. This means consumers can safely grab the bottle -- without a pot holder -- after heating it for 60 seconds, and the contents will stay warm longer. The 33-millimeter closures from Kerr Plastic Products Division, Lancaster, Pa., feature a tamper-evident breakaway ring and a surge-control fitment to aid pouring. Bottles are supplied by Ball-InCon Glass Packaging Corp., Muncie, Ind. Syrup is distributed tray-packed in eights for ease in stocking and handling.
