ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Eastman Kodak here has unveiled Kodak Quick Prints, an on-line service for uploading and ordering prints of digital images from a home computer.
Kodak has priced the program, launched on www.kodak.com last month, from 75 cents each for 4-inch by 6-inch prints to $8.95 each for 8-inch by 10-inch prints. All are printed on glossy paper.
"Quick Prints was designed for use on a home personal computer," a Kodak official told SN, adding that supermarkets are starting to position themselves to offer this type of service in-store.
Below the "Quick Prints" hotlink on the home page, visitors will find additional photo-related products that can also be ordered under the "Doing More With Your Pictures" link, including photo mugs for $14.45 to $15.95, a photo mouse pad at $13.95, photo T-shirts for $19.95, and photo sweat shirts at $25.95. There is a $3 minimum order and postage and handling runs $1.95. The service is browser-based and doesn't require software downloads.
Retailers that have added software -- including the Kodak Power Station accessory -- to their Kodak Picture Maker kiosk can now print photos from digital cameras, picture CDs, and three-format film including APS, 35mm film and 35mm slides. They can also impose images on apparel, photo mugs and photo calendars, the official said.
Under the "Doing More With Your Pictures" hotlink, Kodak promotes the in-store kiosks by saying, "Use a Picture Maker kiosk at a retailer near you to scan in your images, remove red eye, zoom, crop, access Kodak PhotoNet on-line, add text, and more."
