Del Monte to Offer Sweet Onions
onte Fresh Produce here will begin marketing Vidalia Sweet onions, starting in mid-April.
The sweet onions will be labeled with a Del Monte sticker and a standardized price look-up code number.
The onions will be available from April through December, the company announced. "This is a great opportunity to source a premium product that is recognized throughout our industry and by consumers alike," said Mike Pereira, vice president of sales and marketing.
"We will seek to provide year-round sourcing capability of premium sweet onions, to both our customers and consumers," he said.
Seminars Scheduled by United
ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- The United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association here has announced its upcoming events and educational seminars.
United will conduct quality control seminars throughout the United States and in Canada during 1995. The seminars are scheduled for May 16 to 18, in Washington, concerning vegetables only; June 13 to 15, in San Francisco; July 11 to 13, in Richmond, Va., concerning fruit only, and Sept. 25 to 27, in Toronto.
Other upcoming United events include: April 29, Tom Lange Co. and United Foodbank Charity Golf Classic in Oklahoma City; May 1 and 2, Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Seminar in Chicago, and FreshWorld 96, United's annual convention and expo, in New Orleans, Feb. 24 to 26, 1996.
The United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association is an international trade association representing the fresh produce industry.
Melissa's Using PLU Codes
LOS ANGELES -- Melissa's/World Variety Produce here is placing standardized price look-up codes on all its fresh bulk produce items.
The PLUs are available on more than 75 commodities. Certain items have PLUs on both the front and back of product tags, in order to make checkout easier and more accurate, according to the company.
