SALT LAKE CITY -- American Stores Co. here said last week Robert P. Hermanns has left his position as chief operating officer for procurement and logistics.

Succeeding McManus is Greg Josefowicz, formerly senior vice president of marketing for Jewel and Osco. He reports to Martin Scholtens, chief operating officer for retail.
Larry Stablein, formerly senior vice president for markets and formats, succeeds Josefowicz and reports to him.
An American Stores spokesman declined to say last week why Hermanns had left or what his plans are, and Hermanns could not be reached for comment.
Hermanns spent 33 years with American Stores, including 18 at Jewel. In 1991 he was named executive vice president and general manager of Lucky Stores in southern California before moving to the corporate offices here in 1994 when he was named chief operating officer for food.
Later that year he was appointed chief operating officer for procurement and logistics, with responsibility for the company's centralized procurement and logistics operations and for its Delta Group, American's re-engineering initiative.
In that position Hermanns was a member of American's executive council, which develops overall strategies.
McManus joined Jewel in 1978, serving in a series of operating positions. He was named vice president for service operations and business support for Jewel and Osco, in 1990; vice president of distribution, in 1992; senior vice president of operations, in 1993; and senior vice president and general manager of the Jewel and Osco divisions, in 1995.
