BURBANK, Calif. -- Warner Home Video here will sponsor the third annual supermarket breakfast during the Video Software Dealers Association Convention in Las Vegas, July 8 to 11.

The event, which will be hosted by the VSDA and SN, will take place Friday, July 10, beginning at 8 a.m. Details about the program are still being worked out.

"The grocery marketplace is critical to the continued growth of home video," said Jim Cardwell, executive vice president at Warner Home Video, North America. "We are very pleased to sponsor this breakfast and have the opportunity to speak with key grocery retailers."

"We are excited to host this breakfast again with SN and appreciate Warner's sponsorship of the event," said Jeffrey P. Eves, the VSDA's president. "Supermarkets make up a very important component of the home-video industry, and this is our opportunity to recognize the unique efforts of supermarket retailers."

The VSDA show is the only national video convention and attracts all components of the industry. On the supply side, this includes studios, distributors and rackers, and, on the retail side, supermarkets, drug stores, mass merchants and video specialists.

Although attendance at the supermarket breakfast is by invitation only, retailers who would like more information can call Gary Rautenberg, the VSDA's director of membership.

High-profile speakers at the VSDA convention will include keynoter Dan Rather, the CBS news anchor, and motivational speaker Dan Clark, whose books include "Getting High -- How to Really Do It," "Puppies for Sale" and "Internal Excavation." Additionally, the VSDA will honor Henry Winkler with the association's Humanitarian Award for his work with children's charities and in producing children's educational videos.

Seminars at the convention will be organized into four tracks: "Marketing Tools for Business Growth," "Store Design," "Industry Issues" and "Retailing Headaches." Topics will include "Playing to Win With Video Games," "Store Design for Maximum Profits," "Revenue Sharing and Copy Depth: Satisfying Consumers at What Cost?" "Is DVD Right for You? The Effects of Advancing Technology on Your Business," "Where Has All the Inventory Gone?" (a seminar on internal and external theft) and "My Video or Your Money: 10 Best Ideas for Debt Collection."
