“The trend toward adult food in pouches is being driven by younger, environmentally aware consumers who like that pouches are BPA-free, and that they are so much lighter and less space-consuming than glass jars and cans, and therefore far less impactful on the environment, at least in shipping,” Scott Owen, grocery merchandiser at PCC Natural Markets, Seattle, explained, noting that some consumers take issue with the fact that the pouches are non-recyclable.
