Big Y to add dairy case doors

Big Y Foods plans to install dairy case doors in 25 stores this spring as a way to save energy.

According to the retailer, the addition of doors will reduce energy usage by up to 70%. Big Y will also switch to LED bulbs inside the dairy cases.

"We feel these enhancements provide an added value to the customers and our contribution to caring for the environment,” Gary Kuchyt, manager of energy & sustainability, said in a press release.

Six stores installed the doors last year; Big Y plans to make the switch in all stores in 2015-2016.
