Giant expands meal kits to Washington-area stores

Taking a page from its sister banner, Giant-Landover announced it would offer meal kits in eight stores in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

Giant-Carlisle first launched meal kits at two Pennsylvania stores, along with Peapod delivery at additional stores, in December 2015. The offering was expanded to 12 greater Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley stores in February.

Washington-area stores will merchandise meal kits in the deli and produce departments. Customers can also order for home delivery via Peapod.

Summer meal kit varieties include lemon thyme chicken with zucchini, cherry tomatoes and white rice; Asian style pork stir fry with white rice; bacon 7 feta cheese stuffed chicken breasts with roasted broccoli and potato wedges; and salmon risotto with spring vegetables.

As with other meal kits at Giant stores, each kit makes two servings and costs $14.99 for one kit and $24.99 for two.

“These new fresh meals kits are a way for us to make our customers’ lives easier,” Gordon Reid, president, Giant Food of Landover, Md., said in a press release. “Giant is excited about the launch of these kits, which will save our customers time while also providing them with a healthy, well-rounded delicious meal the whole family can enjoy together.”

Ahold Delhaize’s Peapod also offers meal kits designed in partnership with CPG companies in select markets.
