AWI Promotes Ellis, Fantozzi

ROBESONIA, Pa. — Associated Wholesalers Inc. said it has named Bernie Ellis president of its AWI division here and Joseph Fantozzi president of its White Rose division in Carteret, N.J., both effective Jan. 1, 2010. Both report directly to J. Christopher Michael, president and chief executive officer of the combined voluntary and cooperative wholesaler. Ellis currently is executive vice president of sales, marketing, category management and merchandising at AWI. Fantozzi is executive vice president and chief operating officer of the White Rose division. In addition, Audrey Schein has been promoted to vice president of human resources at the AWI division. She had been director of human resources. Schein will continue to report to Thomas Teeter, executive vice president of finance and administration. Also, Charles Yahn, executive vice president of sales and store development, AWI, and Jack Zumba, executive vice president of sales and store development, White Rose, will retire effective January 2010. Zumba spent 15 years with White Rose and 15 years with Fleming — Royal Dairy, and Yahn had a 40-year career with AWI. White Rose and AWI merged in 2006.

WEIS ELEVATES FROST TO VP, CFO

SUNBURY, Pa. — Weis Markets last week said it has promoted Scott Frost to vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. He had been serving in that position in an acting capacity. He succeeds Rick Mills, who left the company in July. Frost joined Weis in 1984 as a staff accountant and has subsequently worked as an assistant controller and controller. In addition, Weis said it named Glenn Steele Jr. as an independent director and a member of the board's audit committee. In a filing with the Security and Exchange Commission, Weis said it had been notified by the New York Stock Exchange that it did not have the minimum of three board members on its audit committee following the departure Oct. 13 of Matthew Nimetz as a member of the board of directors. As a result of Steele's appointment, Weis said it believes it is now compliant with the NYSE requirements.

A&P NAMES DINICOLANTONIO RX VP

MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P here last week said it has promoted Carol DiNicolantonio to vice president of pharmacy. She had been senior director of pharmacy, overseeing an operation that includes 800 pharmacists in 247 stores, representing $500 million in annual sales. She also developed and implemented the successful Live Better! Wellness Program, which provides discounts on over-the-counter items and a wide range of grocery products that promote a healthy lifestyle for individuals, families and pets.
