The Pantry names Dickson chairman

Convenience-store operator The Pantry, based in Cary, N.C., said Friday it has named former Harris Teeter CEO Thomas W. “Tad” Dickson as its new chairman.

Dickson succeeds Edwin J. Holman, who had been chairman since 2009, but was recently pushed out by activist investors, according to a report in the Charlotte News & Observer. A spokesman for The Pantry could not be reached for further comment.

Dickson was chairman and CEO of Matthews, N.C.-based Harris Teeter Supermarkets from 1997 until its acquisition by Kroger Co. in January of this year. Prior to becoming chairman and CEO, he held various executive posts at Harris Teeter — formerly Ruddick Corp. — and its former subsidiary, the textile company American & Efird.

The Pantry operates 1,537 stores in 13 states under multiple banners, including Kangaroo Express.
