Sobeys' Quebec president departs

Sobeys Inc. on Wednesday announced that Claude Tessier, president of the company's Quebec business unit, has left the organization to pursue another opportunity.

The retailer said that Simon Gagné, chief human resources officer, would oversee the Quebec business on an interim basis in addition to his current duties, while the Stellarton, Nova Scotia-based company seeks a replacement for Tessier.

Tessier has severed as an executive at Sobeys since 2003, and was named president of its Quebec divison when Marc Poulin was promoted from that role to Sobeys' president and CEO in 2012.

Gagné, Sobeys said, has a deep understanding of the Quebec business having served for 15 years as a member of the Quebec leadership team prior to his appointment as chief human resources officer in 2012.

"Our leadership team in Quebec, which manages the IGA retail chain as well as other banners throughout the province, will remain focused on advancing the Joy of Eating Better movement and in serving the needs of our customers each and every day," Poulin said in a statement.
