Fifteen Marsh Supermarkets purchased by Generative Growth LLC will be rebranded as Needler’s Fresh Market. Generative Growth purchased the Marsh stores for $8 million in June after the latter filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in May.
“Needler’s Fresh Market truly represents who we are as a family and as an operator,” Michael Needler, Jr., CEO of Fresh Encounter Inc. and partner in Generative Growth, said in a release announcing the rebranding effort. “My sister, Julie, and I have grown up in the grocery business and look forward to bringing our genuine family values to the former Marsh stores. I know customers will begin to experience the pride we feel serving our friends and neighbors every day.”
The company said that Needler’s will “place added concentration on sourcing local fresh produce, and providing high quality in-store made products in the bakery and deli.”
Needler’s, on its Facebook page, responded to a customer’s comments asking for prices that are “more competitive” by saying: “We strive to offer our customers products at fair prices with great customer service by our talented associates. Many customers have found our prices to be lower than what was offered in the past.”
The banner change, including updates to both the interior and exterior of the stores is slated for completion by the end of October. Advertising under the Needler’s flag will commence Sept. 15.
The other remaining store under Generative Growth’s charge, located in Van Wert, Ohio, will become a Chief Supermarket. Chief is an already established, Fresh Encounter brand.
