North Carolina-based grocery chain Harris Teeter plans to close one of its Nashville stores next month.

The 58,373-square-foot store at 4416 Ridgefield Way in Belle Meade will close Feb. 10, said store manager Dennis Williams.

"It will be business as usual up until that date. Corporate has made the decision to close this location and this location only," Williams said.

The store opened in 2009 and anchors the Belle Meade Town Center.

It's unclear what's next for the building once Harris Teeter vacates. An entity of Goldman Sachs Group paid $15.26 million for the Belle Meade Town Center in a foreclosure sale in 2010.

Harris Teeter communications manager Danna Jones said the company made a "strategic decision" to close the store after careful consideration. The store is across the street from a Publix and about a half mile away from Kroger and Target stores.

Jones said the 66 employees at the Belle Meade Harris Teeter will be offered the opportunity to transfer to area Harris Teeter locations. There are Nashville stores at 6002 Highway 100 and 2201 21st Ave. S. There also are locations in Brentwood and Franklin.

"In the coming weeks, the company will work closely with its associates to assist them through the closing process," Jones said.

Harris Teeter was founded in 1960 and operates more than 220 stores. Jones said Harris Teeter opened nine stores in 2014 and anticipates opening nine locations this year.

The Kroger Co. acquired Harris Teeter in January 2014 for $2.5 billion. Kroger retained the Harris Teeter brand after the merger.
