H-E-B Gears Up for New Fitness Contest

SAN ANTONIO — As 25 consumers compete in an H-E-B-sponsored wellness competition, the retailer is already looking for a new slate of contestants.

“You've met the 2012 contestants, now it's your turn,” the H.E. Butt Grocery Co. states on its website.

The retailer is searching for 25 new people to participate in a 12-week wellness program next year. The person whose health improves the most will win $10,000. Texas residents can enter by filling out an online application by Sept. 30. Contestants will be announced in January 2013.

The current contest kicked off in June when participants attended a “Fit Camp” in San Antonio. During Fit Camp, professionals from The Cooper Institute and H-E-B offered education to the contestants on proper nutrition, physical activity and weight management. Now, the contestants are applying what they’ve learned to their everyday life. The person whose health has improved the most by October will win $10,000.

Contestant bios are featured on heb.com. In addition, contestants are documenting their journeys on blogs, YouTube and other social media. Many contestants and their loved ones are using Facebook and Twitter to encourage others to vote for them.
