Kowalski’s Offers Heart Healthy Classes

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Kowalski’s Markets has brought in a cardiologist from a local institute for health and healing to conduct classes for its customers on “Improving Your Heart’s Health.”

Cardiologist Courtney Baechler, MD, vice president of the Penny George Institute for Health and Healing here, is co-presenting the programs with Kowalski’s nutritionist Sue Moores, MS, RD, at three Kowalski’s stores situated in different neighborhoods.

In the classes, two of which were held earlier this month and one that’s coming up on Feb. 24, attendees learn what foods are particularly good for heart health, what’s new in the field of heart health, and what lifestyle choices they can make to make sure their hearts stay well.

At the classes, Kowalski’s will provide heart-healthy foods for class attendees to sample.

In a pre-class discussion with Moores, Dr. Baechler was asked if there’s anything that surprises her about what people think about heart-healthy eating.

“The fat-free craze!” the doctor answered. “The assumption that all fats are bad for the heart is old news! Turns out there are lots of foods that have good fats for your heart like avocado, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, etc.!” This and other comments by Dr. Baechler and Moores were published in Kowalski’s February newsletter.

The classes are held from 6:30 to 8 in the evening at a charge of $10.

These classes on heart health join a whole roster of classes on other subjects that Kowalski’s has set for this spring.
