Biggest Kroger store ever opens Thursday in Oakley

Kroger opened its largest store ever Thursday in Oakley, when a new Marketplace debuted at 7 a.m.

The $28 million store is located at 4613 Marburg Ave. in the Oakley Square development.

The 145,000-square-foot store has a bulk natural foods department, a beer growler and wine bar, a baby center, and a pharmacy with two drive-through lanes. The store also has a fuel center and a Fred Meyer Jewelers.

A number of local celebrities, including Reds announcers Marty and Thom Brennaman, will appear at the store at various times through Sunday. Other events, such as an appearance by the BenGal cheerleaders, will also be held.

Workers at the store made final preparations Wednesday, as a media tour of the facility was held. The store has 375 employees.
