The possible presence of beetles or their larvae in Similac-brand powdered infant formula has led to a widespread recall by manufacturer Abbott in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and other countries.

ABBOTT PARK, Ill. — The possible presence of beetles or their larvae in Similac-brand powdered infant formula has led to a widespread recall by manufacturer Abbott in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and other countries.

The voluntary action follows an internal quality review which detected “the remote possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product produced in one production area in a single manufacturing facility,” said Abbott in a statement.
