BOISE, Idaho — Albertsons LLC said its store in Wichita Falls, Texas, donated more than 700 cases of food and other supplies for volunteer firefighters battling blazes in Young and Palo Pinto counties.
Donations included cases of ground beef, cheese, hot dogs, luncheon meats, bread, buns, crackers, bananas, oranges and granola bars, plus plastic bags, paper towels and wet wipes. Customers at the store were also invited to drop off other supplies or to make monetary donations.
"When we learned the volunteer firefighters were running short on supplies and needed food, we were able to pull together a truckload of supplies," Richard Gordon, the store director, said. "Taking care of our community is the right thing to do."
The donations came in response to a letter from the volunteers "[to] insure that each firefighter has at least one good meal a day and to provide other essentials to keep them going."
