NEW YORK — AmazonLocal, the new discount marketplace operated by online retailer Amazon.com, has expanded its reach to 30 new locations including New York, Seattle, Chicago and Los Angeles, the company announced on Thursday.

AmazonLocal offers daily deals with discounts of least 50% available for purchase for a limited amount of time. Discounts extend to products and services at restaurants, grocery stores, spas and events.

Unlike Groupon, the leading deal-based website, AmazonLocal deals doesn’t require a minimum number of sign ups before a deal is activated.

One deal available on August 25 offers Brooklyn residents $20 worth of food and drink from the Brooklyn restaurant Mango Thai for $10. Customers can use the discount voucher for four months from purchase, and redeem the amount paid at the restaurant for five years.

"Since our initial launch in Boise in June, AmazonLocal has rapidly expanded to 30 distinct locations in 10 states,” Mike George, vice president of AmazonLocal, said in a release. “Whether it's an amazing deal on local services or, in the coming months, on Amazon.com, MYHABIT.com and endless.com, AmazonLocal customers can expect to find significant savings every day."

Some of AmazonLocal’s deals are offered through the company’s relationship with the online discount company LivingSocial.
