NEW YORK — Apollo Global Management here, a private-equity investment company, is reportedly considering a bid for BJ's Wholesale Club, Natick, Mass., according to published reports.

Representatives of Apollo could not be reached for comment.

BJ's, which said in February it had decided to explore a sale or other alternatives, operates 194 membership warehouse clubs, mostly on the East Coast. Apollo owns the majority share in Smart & Final, the Los Angeles-based chain of 195 non-membership warehouse stores and 52 cash-and-carry locations, mostly on the West Coast.

Leonard Green & Partners, Los Angeles, said in March it had entered into a confidentiality agreement with BJ's and was evaluating an offer for the company.
