SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Big Y Foods is celebrating its 75th anniversary by having shoppers submit their favorite Big Y photos.

“We want to see what’s out there,” chain spokeswoman Claire D’Amour told SN. In the past, one shopper contributed a picture from as far back as when Big Y's founders worked in the stores.

Shoppers can upload their photos at the www.bigy.com website once they provide their name and loyalty card number on an online form. Loyalty card numbers are requested so that Big Y has access to addresses and phone numbers should it have any questions about the photos.

Big Y will use the photos in various ways, possibly in videos, brochures, albums and other communications it develops to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2011.

“One advantage of being a family business is that we can honor our history and keep it alive,” D’Amour said.

In other news, Big Y has launched the “Big Y Glee Club.” Comprised of students and faculty members from a Springfield, Mass., music school, the club entertains shoppers with impromptu performances. All acts are also posted on the Big Y YouTube page.
