Bloom Store to Offer Shopping Cart System

A Bloom store will implement a touchscreen shopping cart system called Concierge beginning in 2009, according to Springboard Retail Networks, Toronto, provider of the system.

FORT MILL, S.C. — A Bloom store here will implement a touchscreen shopping cart system called Concierge beginning in 2009, according to Springboard Retail Networks, Toronto, provider of the system.

The Concierge screen, which attaches directly to the push handle of shopping carts, will offer shoppers a product-finder, in-store specials, recipes and how-to tips, as well as the ability to scan items. The system will also provide retailers with knowledge on shopper behavior and preferences to enable them to more effectively personalize the in-store experience, said Springboard.

Some 125 shopping carts will be equipped with the system, which connects wirelessly to the store network and database to deliver up-to-date information.

“Technology is a strategic differentiator, enabling us to enrich and enhance the in-store experience and put our values into action so we always have happy, satisfied guests,” said Robin Johnson, director of marketing for Bloom, a division of Food Lion, Salisbury, N.C.
