KENOSHA, Wis. — A unit of Sam's Club this weekend will feature cheese carver Sarah Kaufmann, who will sculpt Wisconsin dairy scenes on a 1,000-pound hunk of cheddar.

For years, Kaufmann, who became known throughout the food industry as the Cheese Lady, was based at Jungle Jim's International Market, Fairfield, Ohio.

Since 1996, Kaufmann has been commissioned to create hundreds of sculptures for special occasions. She appears at supermarkets, trade shows, state fairs, wine and cheese festivals and other venues.

The Sam's Club event promotes the variety of Wisconsin artisan cheeses Sam's Club — a division of Wal-Mart Stores — offers. Members can watch the progress of Kaufmann's sculpting over three days — July 23, 24, and 25 — and, at the same time, can sample several varieties of Wisconsin cheeses. Four Wisconsin cheesemakers will be be present to offer tastes of their hand-crafted products.
