Chef Urges Obamas to Set Healthy-Eating Example

BERKELEY, Calif. — Alice Waters, chef and owner of renowned Chez Panisse restaurant here, is spearheading a campaign to persuade the Obamas to set a good culinary example for the nation.

A pioneer in the use of locally grown and organic ingredients, Waters — joined by Ruth Reichl, editor of Gourmet magazine, and Danny Meyer, New York restaurateur — sent a letter to the president-elect in which they suggested the Obamas could start the good example with a judicious choice for their White House chef and by planting organic vegetables in the White House Garden.

The trio's suggestions were reported in The Washington Post's Lean & Fit supplement.
