Digital Coupon Program at 100 Banners

WALTHAM, Mass. — Nearly 100 supermarket and drugstore banners — covering over 20,000 stores nationwide — are participating in a new digital coupon program from SavingStar here.

The CPG coupons are available for free to consumers on SavingStar's iPhone and Android mobile apps, as well as the company’s website, SavingStar.com, which launches today. The company's launch includes over 50 "eCoupons," worth over $50 in savings on items from Bounty, Charmin, Heinz, Welch’s, and other brands.

Participating retailers include Albertsons, CVS, Wegmans, Winn-Dixie and Stop & Shop. Selected coupons are linked to shoppers’ loyalty cards. After the loyalty card is swiped at checkout in the store, the money is automatically added to the shopper's SavingStar account (rather than being deducted at the register). Users can then pick their preferred payout, including direct deposit into any bank or Paypal account, Amazon gift cards, or a charity donation to American Forests.

CPG firms pay only when an eCoupon is redeemed. National distribution is also not required for a CPG to participate as SavingStar can specify where the eCoupon is redeemable. CPGs can share eCoupons through Facebook's newsfeed and fan pages, enabling users to link the eCoupon to their store loyalty card. The eCoupons can also be included in internet, mobile or email advertising – including search and other digital marketing campaigns.

"We remain committed to providing today’s tech savvy customer with new ways to save," said Melissa Studzinski, vice president, customer relationship management for CVS/pharmacy, in a statement. "SavingStar eCoupons now allow our customers the option of linking the eCoupons they select right to their ExtraCare card, giving them an additional way to save while shopping at CVS/pharmacy."
