Economy Forces Eating, Shopping Changes: Harris Poll

A large number of shoppers have changed their cooking and shopping habits because of the economy, according to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive here for Whole Foods Market, Austin, Texas.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A large number of shoppers have changed their cooking and shopping habits because of the economy, according to a survey conducted by Harris Interactive here for Whole Foods Market, Austin, Texas.

According to published reports, the survey found 51% of Americans are eating dinner at home more often, while 37% are budgeting food trips more strictly. It also found 76% of respondents said they are unwilling to compromise on food quality, regardless of price; 54% said they are using more coupons; 50% indicated they are more likely to comparison shop; and 45% said they are more likely to buy private-label products.
