Family Dollar Reports 7% 3Q Comps

Strong sales of seasonal and consumable goods helped Family Dollar post 7% quarterly comparable sales gain, the retailer said.

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Strong sales of seasonal and consumable goods helped Family Dollar post 7% quarterly comparable sales gain, the retailer here said Thursday.

Sales of $2 billion for the quarter ending May 29 increased by 8.4%. The company will issue earnings figures at a later date but said it would be in the "in the upper end" of its previous earnings per share guidance of 71 cents to 76 cents per share. That seemed to disappoint some investors, who were counting on analyst consensus of 77 cents per share. Family Dollar stock closed down nearly 4%.
