ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Fresh Market opened its 100th store here last week — the eighth location that the upscale, small-format operator has opened this year.
The new, 22,000-square-foot store is The Fresh Market's 24th in Florida, where the Greensboro, N.C.-based chain has its largest presence.
The privately owned company in May filed plans for an initial public offering, and has updated its prospectus as recently as August, but has not yet indicated when it might begin offering shares to the public.
In its August filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said it had a 43% increase in income from operators for the six-month period ending June 27, to $31.7 million, on a 12.6% increase in sales, to $456.1 million, vs. year-ago results.
