Giant-Carlisle Receives SNAP Award

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores here on Friday said it has received the Golden Grocer Award in recognition of the chain's successful operation of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps.

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores here on Friday said it has received the Golden Grocer Award in recognition of the chain's successful operation of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps.

"Giant has distinguished itself as a leader in the fight against hunger," said Yvette Jackson, Mid-Atlantic administrator for SNAP. "They are a model retailer that provides excellent customer service and extraordinary community partnership."

Giant was nominated by the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and selected by the nationwide Outreach Coalition.

"At Giant, we are truly honored to be recognized as a national leader in the fight against hunger," said Rick Herring, president of the Ahold-owned chain.
