HOUSTON — H.E. Butt Grocery Co., San Antonio, helped Texans prepare for hurricane season, which began on June 1, by hosting several educational events in the Houston, Gulf Coast and Border/Valley regions here last week.

The events informed customers on safety and what to do when preparing for a hurricane. “Everyone needs to get groceries, but not everyone needs to go to the Red Cross,” said Christina Block, H-E-B public affairs specialist.

In conjunction with the events, H-E-B is merchandising Emergency Preparedness Kits that hold a three-day supply of goods for two adults. The two kits — one containing food with items like tuna, beans, fruit cocktail and almonds and one with various supplies like freezer bags, a flashlight, plastic cups and a first-aid kit, retail for $17.99. The chain also sells the All Hazard Weather Alert Radio for $32.99.
