SAN DIEGO — Henry's Farmers Market here, a division of Los Angeles-based Smart & Final, is moving gradually into the Los Angeles marketplace, with a third location scheduled to open in June and up to 12 more Los Angeles-area locations scheduled to open by the end of 2010, according to local sources.

A spokesman for Smart & Final could not be reached for comment yesterday.

The company opened its second area store — in Woodland Hills, in the San Fernando Valley — last week, giving it 29 stores in Southern California, and it has at least two more L.A.-area stores due to open this year: one in Monrovia next month and another in Burbank by year's end.

Henry's touts itself as an “indoor farmers' market” whose stores average 30,000 square feet, with a strong emphasis on natural, organic and locally grown perishables, plus an assortment of mainstream and ethnic selections, with discount pricing.
