Hy-Vee Sponsors Culinary Arts School

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The seven Hy-Vee stores in this market have joined together to sponsor the culinary arts program and kitchen at a local technical high school.

The Hy-Vee stores will pay $50,000 over the next five years to have naming rights and other recognition at the Career and Technical Education Academy here.

Bob Trader, store director at one of the Hy-Vee locations, told SN the program seemed like a good fit for the chain. "As a company we have stressed adding chefs to our store locations," he said.

Two local hospitals, Sanford Health and Avera McKennan Hospital, are sponsors of the biomedical sciences and health careers classes, respectively, at the school.

Hy-Vee stores in other markets have sponsored post-secondary education programs, but Trader said this is the first time he has heard of the chain sponsoring a vocational high school program.
