FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. — McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a division of Johnson & Johnson here, issued another recall Wednesday on four product lots of 100-count Benadryl Allergy Ultratab tablets and one lot of 50-count Extra Strength Tylenol Rapid Release Gels.
This follows previous recalls beginning Jan. 15 of some of the company's over-the-count formulations on popular brands, including Motrin, Zyrtec and Rolaids Antacid tablets, as well as recalls of certain infant and children's medications.
Johnson & Johnson has come under intense questioning on its quality control and recall practices by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which is investigating the recalls and the Federal Food and Drug Administration's handling of those recalls.
CNNMoney.com reported on Wednesday shortages of the popular brands at retail stores such as CVS, Walgreen and Target. It wasn’t clear what the stocking situation of the recalled products was at supermarket chains.
SN's calls to several nonfood wholesalers and retailers for comment went unanswered. Bonnie Jacobs, a spokeswoman for McNeil, told CNNMoney.com that production was expected to be back to normal levels by the end of the second quarter.
