WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— Lowes Food Stores hosted a unique type of party Thursday — a Twitter party.

The event, which started at 10 a.m. and lasted about an hour, addressed coupons and other ways to save money.

A Twitter party is a virtual party discussing a topic using the Twitter platform. Most Twitter parties have a host to keep the party on topic.

In the days preceding its event, Lowes alerted its Facebook fans and Twitter users to follow @lowesfoods on Twitter and search for #lowescoupons. Participants were eligible to win a $50 Lowes Foods gift card.

Among topics that Lowes addressed during the discussion:

• “We have double coupons every day now with no minimum purchase.”

• "Did you know that we accept competitor coupons as well?"

• “What's the most you've saved on one trip to Lowes Foods?”

It also alerted shoppers to current coupon offers, including Breakstone sour cream for 19 cents.

The party is one of several that the retailer plans to host over the next few weeks. The next is planned for Dec. 8 with Terri Bennett, an eco-friendly personality featured in green-living videos posted each week on www.lowesfoods.com.
