Most Retailers Replacing R-22 Refrigerant: SN Survey

Seven in 10 (70.1%) of respondents to an online SN survey said they were actively retrofitting the refrigeration systems in their stores to use HFC refrigerants rather than ozone-depleting HCFC refrigerants such as R-22.

NEW YORK — Seven in 10 (70.1%) of respondents to an online SN survey said they were actively retrofitting the refrigeration systems in their stores to use HFC refrigerants rather than ozone-depleting HCFC refrigerants such as R-22. According to the Montreal Protocol, to which the U.S. is a party, no R-22 refrigerant will be produced or imported for new equipment as of 2010. More than two-thirds of respondents (68.7%) said they expected to be fully converted to HFC refrigerants by 2010. Almost three-quarters of respondents (74.6%) said they were exploring new types of refrigeration technology that uses less conventional refrigerant. The survey elicited 67 responses.
