WASHINGTON — A new, $100 billion economic stimulus package for both consumers and businesses could be implemented this month, reports said on Friday, and another, possibly larger package could follow earlier next year. The news came after bleak reports on job losses and dire forecasts for the economy late last week. The first package reportedly will include a 13-week extension of unemployment benefits and additional funds for food stamps. President-elect Obama called for the speedy passage of economic stimulus initiatives after a meeting with economic advisors on Friday.
