SAN ANTONIO — The mpXML group, which consists of meat and poultry suppliers and retailers who work on data standards for the meat and poultry supply chain, will be releasing a “Traceability for Meat and Poultry U.S. Implementation Guide” by mid-June, according to Douglas Bailey, chief information officer, Agricultural Marketing Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The free guide, which will be posted at www.mpxml.org, is designed to assist retailers and suppliers in tracing the origin of meat and poultry products. Bailey spoke about the guide today here at U Connect 2010 conference, sponsored by GS1 US and VICS.

“It covers the minimum requirements for managing traceability,” such as tracking the GTIN and batch lot number of cases as they move through the supply chain, he said.

The mpXML group hopes to establish milestones for implementation similar to those set by the Produce Traceability Initiative, he added.
